Four waves of increasingly deadly alien attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother.
Okay this one was adapted from a 2013 novel written by American author Rick Yancey and for those of you keeping score at home no I have not read the book. I really wasn’t overly impressed with The 5th Wave and yes maybe I’m a little overly cynical about these ‘young-adult-novel’ adaptations (and probably should give up on watching them altogether especially considering I don’t feel guilty about missing this one at the cinema) but I got the overall impression that this was a slightly dirtier interpretation of the 2013 movie adapted from a Stephanie Myer novel The Host. I’m really not that familiar with director J blakeson’s work. Blakeson’s movies possibly could be worth watching but only if he gets a little more experience considering that The 5th Wave was only the 4th feature length movie that he has directed.
The 5th wave didn’t try to bring anything new to the genre and it came across as being slightly clichéd but unfortunately not I a good way. Now Chloe Mortez is a decent enough actress but I couldn’t help the feeling that she deserved a little more then what she was given.
