Two decades after the first Independence Day invasion, Earth is faced with a new extra-Solar threat. But will mankind’s new space defences be enough?

Okay, supposedly Dean Devlin was originally approached by 20th century fox to right a sequel to Independence Day, instead of turning in the script he had written he returned the money that he had been paid. It wasn’t until 15 years later that Devlin and Roland Emmerich felt that they had “cracked” the story for the sequel. Well in this humble reviewers mind just maybe they should have tried again because we all know the third time is a charm. This was because the whole thing felt underdeveloped and that it lacked the emotional punch of the original ’96 movie and this seems that it felt prey to the ‘curse of the sequel’ and be sure to remember that at some point in the distant future the Independence Day ‘trilogy’ will be capped off with Independence Day Part 1& Part 2. Resurgence really tried to bigger and better than the original but it just wasn’t up to the job but the movie just seemed to fall flat on its face. I’m just thankful that the movie didn’t have its pants around its ankles when it did. Oh and I have to ask Mr. Emmerich was the rear view shot of Brent Spinner in a hospital gown really necessary?
Now as you would expect there was a certain amount of pandering to the fans which was nice and the filmmakers got some of the actors from the original movie to reprise their roles. Now I didn’t refresh my mind by watching the original before heading off to see resurgence, but even though it had about twice the budget of the original movie. I got the impression that Roland Emmerich did more with less money in the original movie and I don’t think I would have felt that guilty if I had of waited until this was released on DVD before I watched it and not feel guilty.
