I suppose if there was list of Doctor Who episodes that you have to watch An Unearthly Child would probably be at the top considering that it was the first ever episode and was broadcast from November 23rd to December 14th in 1963.
This was the second time that I have come across this episode and it’s really good to see William Hartnell’s performance as the first Doctor. Just thinking about his performance makes me smile just a little bit, something I can say with a degree certainty that I haven’t said about most actor’s work. This is because his work launched the world’s longest running science fiction television series and was the basis for some many other men’s work (I wonder if I watch enough of Hartnell’s Doctor Who episodes if I could other actor’s interpretation of the role). If you get the opportunity I recommend that you watch the unaired version of the pilot episode because there is a noticeable difference between the quality of the episodes camerawork wise. It’s as if they did not have enough rehearsal time.
