Ladies, Gentleman and followers of all ages last Tuesday night (July 12th) to borrow a line from well respected space-bums Arnold Rimmer and Dave Lister I had what could be considered to be an ‘oh smeg’ moment, actually to be more accurate it was more of a ‘oh-fuck-what-the-heck-am-i-going-to-do-I-really-don’t-want-to-sleep-in-my-car’ kind of moment. Actually they might be the same I’ll leave it up to you good people to decide.
Now, my plans for Tuesday night where on the uneventful side I had to return a DVD and get a new phone charger for my car, and things where very uneventful until of course I got back home and discovered that I had no power coming from my car’s cigarette lighter so that I could power the wheelchair lift on the top of my car. Normally getting around this problem would have been on the easy-side if the battery for my mobile had not have gone flat so I had to drive around until I found somebody in an emergency services capacity to help out because as luck would have it the dear old dad is out of the country for the next few weeks (it’s all about the timing right?). This of course was somewhat of a race against time considering I had less than a third of a tank of petrol. Luckily after about 45 minutes of driving around the Belconnen I found a Paramedic by the name of Chris at the Belconnen Ambulance Station who has kind enough to follow me home and go inside to get my spare wheelchair so I could get out of my car and not have to spend the night camping in my car in the freezing cold weather.
Now, fast-forward to Wednesday (July 13th) after a couple of phone calls one to One M Engineering who told me that it was a blown fuse a call to NRMA (who arrived about an hour quicker than I expected looked at all of the fuses and found out that it was the cigarette lighter that needed fixing. Unfortunately the guy who came was unable to fix my cigarette light without trashing the interior of my car, though he did recommend that I go to Gibbs Auto Electrical in Belconnen.
Now another thank you goes to Rob and the boys of Gibbs Auto Electrical who helped me get my get my good chair off of the roof of my car and fixed the fuse that I had blown that sent power to my cigarette lighter. Now the story would have ended there but after driving around for a bit with my phone on the charger, filling up with petrol and grabbing some lunch the same fuse blew again (as it turns out it was courtesy of my brand spanking new phone charger) so I made a trip back to Gibbs Auto Electrical who fixed the fuse for a second time so that I would be able to get out of the car when I got home and gave me instructions not to use my phone charger and to call them next week to make an appointment so that they would be able to get to the bottom of the problem and that so they will be able to make me an emergency back-up extension cord to use should the fuse to my cigarette lighter blow again.
