Matilda Brown Named Ambassador for #SocialShorts

The search is on for Australia’s next generation of top filmmaking talent as they go head-to-head in AFI | AACTA’s national online short film competition #SocialShorts has launched today. AFI | AACTA have announced that Matilda Brown will join Australia’s Blue-Tongue Films group – comprising Joel and Nash Edgerton, David Michôd, Kieran Darcy-Smith, Luke Doolan, Mirrah Foulkes and Spencer Susser – as this year’s AFI | AACTA #SocialShorts Ambassadors.
Speaking of her new role as #SocialShorts Ambassador, Matilda Brown said she was looking forward to sharing her experience with this year’s #SocialShorts entrants in a mentoring capacity. “Short films are a key ingredient of the Australian film industry, but it’s competitive and one of the biggest challenges is having your work seen. #SocialShorts is a great platform for filmmakers to get their work seen, not only by the industry, but by the wider audience, and I’m looking forward to sharing my insights from filmmaking with this year’s winners in my role as an Ambassador. The networking and collaboration opportunities which come from #SocialShorts are invaluable. This is a record year for #SocialShorts with over 50 short films in the competition, so I’m looking forward to seeing which short films will resonate with the voting audience in such a strong year of competition,” Brown commented.
AFI | AACTA CEO Damian Trewhella said that #SocialShorts entrants comprise some of the short films which entered but were not nominated for the 6th AACTA Awards presented Presto, as well as some of the short films which entered but were not nominated for last year’s Awards.
Trewhella went on to explain that audiences can vote for their favourite short films in each category on the #SocialShorts website and then share via Facebook, with the winning film for each category to be announced at the start of the following week. The voting audience also has the chance to win a double pass to the 6th AACTA Awards presented by Presto Ceremony and After Party held at the Star Event Centre in Sydney on Wednesday 7 December, including flights and overnight accommodation.
