Jack Reacher must uncover the truth behind a major government conspiracy in order to clear his name. On the run as a fugitive from the law, Reacher uncovers a potential secret from his past that could change his life forever.
Okay, we have a Jack Reacher sequel; I suppose we are going to have to start calling this a legitimate franchise given the sheer depth of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novel series especially if a third movie gets up.
Never go back might of suffered a little from the “curse of the sequel” and might not have had the same impact of the first movie though this could have been through the virtue of being the first movie and the fact that Edward Zwick directed Never go Back and not Christopher McQuarrie who was responsible for the 2012 movie. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again franchise’s need directorial continuity.
At least on the part of Tom Cruise this came across as a by the numbers action movie, though I do like that Cruise brings the idiom ‘it’s not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog’. To me the Cobie Smulders (yeah I admit it I have not seen much of her work) and Danika Yarosh stole the movie because there were a few moments where Tom Cruise seemed to fade into the background.
