It follows the adventures of the Nekton family—a brilliant team of underwater explorers. With state‐of‐the‐art technology and an unquenchable thirst for discovery, the Nektons explore the mysterious depths of the ocean, where most of our world lies unexplored and unexplained. While others look up to the stars, this family knows that an infinite number of things shine brightly in the darkness below. The deep is a place where leviathans swim through sunken cities, where pirates lurk amidst floating black markets, and where a mysterious group of Guardians hide long lost secrets.
The Deep is based on the award-winning graphic novels by Tom Taylor. We need more Australian content on our television, especially for children. Even though it’s a children’s television series The Deep is something that could possibly attract an older audience (though maybe not to old) after all, the first episode has an underwater dragon in it, what’s not to like?
The writing did not hold my attention as much as I might liked it to be but the banter between Fontaine and Antaeus did have some kind of funny moments. I liked the computer generated visual style of the series it is what I usually think of now when I think of an animated series or movie (though yes hand drawn animation will always have its place and should be respected).
