outdoor-drinks-in-the-courtyardThe team behind Shadow Electric, who have been involved with producing some of Australia’s most memorable events, are thrilled to announce their most audacious endeavor to date, Shimmerlands, an entertainment oasis at the edge of Melbourne CBD over summer 2017. From Sunday January 1 – Sunday February 26, Shimmerlands will enliven the University of Melbourne, Parkville with two months of film, music, art and hospitality throughout the daylight and night hours, featuring an outdoor cinema, indoor concert hall, outdoor music amphitheatre, multiple bars and an al fresco dining area hosting an extensive range of Melbourne’s finest restaurants.
“The idea behind Shimmerlands was to create something new, internationally appealing and culturally relevant to Melbourne, and all within the urban gem of the University of Melbourne, said Creative Director Jay Rayner.
Shadow Electric co-founder David Chestwig explained that the Shimmerlands music program has been crafted in consultation with Melbourne’s pre-eminent promoters and tastemakers. Spanning a multitude of genres and featuring international heavyweights, local stalwarts and special one-off events, the program showcases and offers a platform for a dynamic cross-section of Melbourne’s thriving music scene. Adding that over the two months there will be six large outdoor music shows including Brooklyn based Parquet Courts, with additional key announcements to follow.
Jay Rayner went on to point out that the team is also co-programming a series of outdoor shows with creative duo Supple Fox, who are behind some of Australia’s best performance based events including Dark Mofo. Each Saturday afternoon Andee Frost will be curating a stellar lineup of local and international artists.
“The advantage of Shimmerlands running over two months is that we can be more curatorial about our selection of artists and lineup and can even be confirming acts during January and February,” Rayner commented.
