If there was a list of movies that I was eager to see this year, Mechanic Resurrection would definitely be on it. Oh in case you’re wondering I don’t actually have a physical copy of that list. Okay, here are some important facts you might be interested, about this movie there is no directorial continuity between Simon West’s 2011 The Mechanic and its sequel 2016 Mechanic Resurrection. It should also be noted that West’s 2011 movie and Michael Winner’s 1972 movie starring Charles Bronson.
It seems that the goal of almost every production is to establish a film franchise with every property that they come in contact with and in turn, turn it into a licence to print money. That is not necessarily a bad thing, unless the connection between the two movies seems to have been forced or unwarranted. After all sometimes a character deserves to be allowed to drive off into the sunset without having to worry about a potential sequel. I will concede that Resurrection is watchable but it lacks the intelligence that the 2011 movie seemed to have and most of the action sequences of Resurrection could easily be surpassed by the second of the Mission Impossible movies.
