The NSA’s illegal surveillance techniques are leaked to the public by one of the agency’s employees, Edward Snowden, in the form of thousands of classified documents distributed to the press.
For those of you who are interested Snowden is based on the books The Snowden Files by Luke Harding and Time of the Octopus by Anatoly Kucherena. I can’t say that I remember seeing this one being advertised at the cinema or for that matter getting a cinematic run in Australia, though I was sure that I was going to review this at some point. Though being an important story that was going to be made into a movie at some point Snowden wasn’t impactful as some of the other bio-pics directed by Oliver Stone. It did not have its very own ‘back and to the left’ moment, I can’t help but think that it could because currently there is a need to make current affairs bio-pics like Snowden as quickly as possible and that is not necessarily a good thing.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt gave a solid performance as Edward Snowden and given the cameo by the man himself Edward Snowden, you’ll realise what a good casting choice Gordon-Levitt was physically and that he Snowden could be twins.
