Retired mixed martial artist Wes “The Jailor” Baylor can’t refuse a million-dollar purse he’s offered for one final bout in Myanmar. But when he arrives for the fight, he learns he’s been tricked into becoming the target of a human hunt.
The best place to file Hard Target 2 would probably be in the “why?” file considering that even though it is marketed as a sequel to John Woo’s 1993 movie Hard Target which stared Jean-Claude Van Damme. Hard Target 2 is what I like to refer as a fake sequel considering no characters from the original movie reprise their roles and the “sequel” fails to make any reference to the original in any way. This is also proof that certain filmmakers need to be under constant supervision of the ‘Gary Cheer Squad’.
The really wasn’t anything that special about this movie, I suppose the only halfway decent about this was director Roel Reiné nod to the director of the original Hard Target with the use of doves. Watching this to the end is yet more proof that I must be a glutton for cinematic punishment.
