“The Uluru Fork and Dinner tour will enhance the suite of experiences on offer in the Centre for both domestic and international tourists and encourage them to stay longer,” Department of Tourism and Culture CEO, Alastair Shields commented “It also ties into Tourism Australia’s global #RestaurantAustralia campaign, which aims to promote the unique food and wine experiences on offer in Australia. Whether it’s a heli-pub crawl in the Top End or dining under the stars in the Red Centre, the Northern Territory is home to incredible foodie experiences surrounded by natural beauty.” Shields added.
Mr. Shields explained that the tour takes place on a specially designed and modified double-decker open top coach, the lower deck having been completely transformed into a kitchen and the upper deck a 44-seat open air eatery with uninterrupted, panoramic views of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Shields pointed out that the fit-out of the double-decker bus was assisted via a $75,545 grant from the NT Government’s Tourism Infrastructure Development Fund Accelerator program.
Owner of SEIT Outback Australia, Kathy Graham, said the menu had been especially designed to complement existing dinner tours in the region and offer something different in the way of outback, pioneer style of food and theming.
“Central Australia has a rich outback pioneer history and the new Uluru Fork and View tour will allow visitors to learn more about these stories all while taking in the breath-taking views of Uluru from a top the double decker bus,” Mrs. Graham commented “The menu features fresh, stockman-style food to give visitors an authentic outback experience and of course dining under the magical Central Australian skies for a night they won’t forget. The Fork and View, “Outback Explorers Dinner” tour is available for group bookings with individual bookings to come online in the coming months. The Billy Tea and Tjukurpa Tour, also operates during the day, taking in a walk around Uluru with freshly cooked damper served at morning tea.”
As part of Tourism Australia’s global Restaurant Australia campaign, the new Uluru Fork and View dinner tour feature in the national program of events ahead of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards night in Melbourne on 5 April.
