Asian POWs get a chance at freedom when the United States offers them a mission to destroy a secret depot of missiles in Vietnam.

Before I get to far into this review, I first reviewed Eastern Condors on April 8th, 2010 (I’ve noticed how much The Movie Boards has changed between then and now). For those of you who might be interested Sammo Hung attended same opera school as Jackie Chan, Biao Yuen, Wah Yuen and Corey Yuen. Also, supposedly most of the sequences in Eastern Condors were filmed for real, with the actors actually making full physical contact during the fight scenes.

Being released in 1987 Eastern Condors falls prey to a couple of troupes ‘bad 80’s action’ in the sense that I am certain that I saw a gun reloaded once (not by one of the heroes) and what could be considered well ‘bad Kung Fu’ with overexaggerated sound effects (that we have all come across before) used in hand to hand fight sequences. I will admit that there was one that I was blown away by when I first reviewed this, that I wasn’t as impressed by. Probably because I knew it was coming.

There were some decent performances though I’m not overly familiar with most people who were cast in this movie, and I probably should try and watch a few more movies featuring Sammo Hung. For the most part Eastern Condors is just a straight action movie not wasting too much time on exposition the movie gets down to business as quickly as possible. There was also joke about jumping out of a plane that made me chuckle out loud.
