Score 5/6

The story of the assassination classroom and their teacher target continues with the students’ own conflicts, Korosensei’s identity, and the fate of the world as the deadline for assassination approaches.

I first came across Assassination Classroom back in 2015 the first time I went to the Japanese Film Festival. Just to recap things a little Assassination Classroom is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yūsei Matsui and has been adapted into Anime, Film and Video Games. Also for those of you who might be interested no I did not refresh my memory by watching Assassination Classroom before watching Assassination Classroom: Graduation.

Now it was good to see that director Eiichirô Hasumi returned to direct the second so there were no dramatic stylistic changes between the two movies (which can be seen in movie franchises when there is a change in director). Though I got the impression that of the two movies Graduation had a slightly more serious tone but that can put down to the fact that the students’ deadline to assassinate their teacher was fast approaching. I liked the exposition that revealed Koro-sensei’s identity was revealed and it was good to see a kind of familiar face in the form of Kazunari Ninomiya was playing the character in his human form (Ninomiya starred in the live action Gantz movies). I also liked the resolution of the whole metaphor of the role teachers take in helping students grow up.
