Director, Public Transport Operations, Ian McGlinn has announced Transport Canberra is currently in the process of installing the new bike racks, with all 33 to be installed on buses by the end of June 2017.
“This means 92 per cent of our total fleet will be equipped with these bike racks, providing even greater access to active travel options for Canberrans using public transport,” Mr. McGlinn commented “The ACT Government is committed to providing active travel options for Canberrans, and these bike racks are an environmentally friendly and healthy way for people to use their bike to access public transport.”
McGlinn went on to explain that while the majority of bus routes and services will provide patrons with the option to ride their bike to the bus stop and make use of the bike racks for the journey, it is not possible to fit bike racks on every bus due to turning circle restrictions at intersections and roundabouts.
The availability of services with bike racks will be reported through the real-time nxtbus system.
