Melbourne’s AAMI Park will host its first ever Women’s National Premier League (WNPL) football match later this month in a historic double header. Minister for Sport John Eren announced today that Alamein FC will take on arch rivals South Melbourne FC at 4pm on June 11.
“We’re proud to bring the best of the best of women’s football in Victoria to AAMI Park for this historic occasion.” Minister Eren commented.
Minister Eren also said that it’s a great chance for fans to see Matildas captain Lisa De Vanna in action as she leads South Melbourne into battle. Also on show will be high-profile national and international talent such as Alexandra Gummer, Alex Cheal, Caitlin Doeglas, Amy Jackson, Erin Hudson and Young Matildas international stars Melina Ayres and Ashleigh Lefevre. Following the historic game, the National Premier League Victoria men’s clash between South Melbourne and Heidelberg United will kick off at 6.30pm.
“It’s been a long time coming, but it’s great to finally see a WNPL game get equal billing at Victoria’s premier football arena AAMI Park.” Matildas captain Lisa De Vanna commented.
“What a great opportunity for the Victorian elite national women’s premier league football competition to play at such a great stadium as AAMI Park. We must thank all government agencies involved including the clubs that have made this happen.” South Melbourne Football Club Senior Women’s Coach Socrates Nicolaidis commented.
Minister Eren explained that fans that purchase tickets to the double-header will go into the draw to win a VIP experience for four people to the Socceroos v Brazil match on Tuesday 13 June, including MCG pitch side access during the team warm-up. The double header will be broadcast live on Flip TV. For more information or to buy tickets.
