An ancient princess is awakened from her crypt beneath the desert, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension.

Before we get started a new rule. If you are going to make a remake of a movie there needs be at least 10 to 15 years between the release of the original movie and the remake and in the event that the movie that you are remaking is part of a franchise the clock starts with the final movie of the franchise. Also, it should be noted that not only The Mummy franchise (which had movies released in 1999, 2001 and 2008) being rebooted but universal studios are rebooting all of their classic monsters and 8 more movies are planned. Though judging by the quality of this first offering The Mummy might have killed those plans.

In the past I have talked about the rule five before (basically it means it takes 5 movies before you get a good idea of a director or actor’s skill level). I probably should hold off on any definitive judgement about director Alex Kurtzman so all I’ll say is the only way is up. Cause when I left the cinema I felt as if I needed a good stiff drink and a shower.
The Mummy hit on a few of the plot points of the original 199 version but it did not hit on all of them so I guess this really comes across as more of a reimagination then actual proper reboot. Tom Cruise is actually capable of a decent performance I really don’t know what went wrong here, Russell Crowe I kind of liked his portrayal of Mr. Hyde and as for Annabelle Wallis she deserved to have a character that was fully fleshed out and if she was supposed to be the love interest of the movie it would have been nice to see that the romantic sub plot was more than just a cinematic after thought.
