Tells the true and untold story of prolific rapper, actor, poet and activist Tupac Shakur.
Alright, there is a finally a movie directed by Benny Boom that I like. To put things into perspective Benny has directed 3 feature length movies of which I have only watched two of them and it should also be noted that this the first of his movies to be featured on The Movie Boards.
Even though I did like All Eyez on Me I was a little surprised when I realised that Boom had directed the movie. Even though Boom does have a solid background in the music industry from directing music videos I am not sure if he was right choice to direct this movie given his level of experience making movies. Directing a biopic is risky business especially considering that Hollywood can be a little creative when it comes to history, as such all biopics should be taken with a grain of salt. So, it would have been good to see All Eyez on Me directed by a director who had already directed a biopic before and would have been better equipped to do Tupac’s legacy justice and give the movie the extra emotional weight it needed. I liked how Tupac’s early life was told through an interview that was conducted while Tupac was in prison instead of using flashback. I also thought that Demetrius Shipp Jr. who was in his feature film debut gave a decent performance.
I probably should have waited until All Eyez on Me was released on DVD.
