A team of scientists explore an uncharted island in the Pacific, venturing into the domain of the mighty Kong, and must fight to escape a primal Eden.
The filmmakers who brought us Kong skull island should be congratulated for having the level of cinematic efficiency in introducing the title character something that clearly was not on display back 2014 when Legendary films was establishing its montserverse with the release of Godzilla. Now this is not something that the filmmakers should be proud of considering that they failed to invest emotionally in any of the characters sufficiently enough that would have caused me to want to invest in them emotionally enough to want to care about their fates. Now, granted there was some talented actors cast in this movie in the form of Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson and Brie Larson but an actor is only as good as the screenplay that they are given. Spending a little time exploring Jackson’s character Lieutenant Colonel Packard’s decent into Captain Ahab-esque madness would have been good rather then it being seemingly instantaneous. After watching Kong: Skull Island I really don’t have much hope for this franchise developing into anything satisfying.
