International master thief, Simon Templar, also known as The Saint, is asked by a desperate rich man to find his kidnapped daughter. However, in addition to evading the authorities, Simon must face a dangerous adversary from his past.
It should be noted that this was Roger Moore’s final film appearance and the film was a dedication to his memory.
Alright, it’s okay if you haven’t seen the trailer for this one in the cinema because The Saint was produced as a pilot for a potential TV series but was not picked up and was instead released digitally on July 11, 2017. I have vague memories of hearing about this incarnation of The Saint, though I have never seen the trailer for it and it was kind of a surprise when I came across it on iTunes the other day.
It was good to see that the guys behind this tipped their hat to the original series by featuring Roger Moore, but it really wasn’t overly impressive. Also, Adam Rayner and Eliza Dushku seemed to work well together as Simon Templar and Patricia Holm respectively. Though if this pilot had of brought about a TV series it had all of the predictable promise that would have landed the eventual program somewhere in the early AM.
One other thing that I thought was a little strange depending where you look on the net there seems to be conflicting accounts as to who is the credited director being either Simon West or Ernie Barbarash.
