Champion gamer Max Troy discovers events in a new video game are being mirrored in the real world, and must join forces with the game’s protagonist, Orson Creed, to unravel the conspiracy before the game’s sinister plot overwhelms the city.
The last time I came across anything remote like this was back in February of 2010 with a movie called Gamer and it was directed by Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor and starred Gerard Buttler and co-starred Michael C Hall. It was a watchable movie but had a flash of brilliance with MCH’s rendition of Cole Porter’s song from the 30’s I’ve got you under my skin.
Now it seems that at it practically impossible that there’s ever going to be a good movie adapted from a computer game. Now true there was the rare occurrence of 2015’s Hardcore Henry directed by Ilya Naishuller which was clearly influenced by computer games was an action sci-fy movie. The same almost seems to be said for movies about fictional games that have something to say about Beta Test about the importance of humanity are being ignored and sent directly to DVD and digital copy with little to no ceremony. It should be noted that the “game footage” used in a movie about a market leading game always seem to look like a game that might of been at home on my friends’ computer in the late 90’s. Now to finish my point that I’m not the biggest of gamers but I have to say this to all the filmmakers out there this might not be the best of movies but it is watchable. And if you guys learn the genre and stop bitchslapping the genre like you have been you might be able to deliver something that’s not only watchable but magnificent.
