The crew of a colony ship, bound for a remote planet, discover an uncharted paradise with a threat beyond their imagination, and must attempt a harrowing escape.
I would like to express my sincerest congratulations to Mr. Ridley Scott for his ability to kill the Alien Franchise in two movies, which is a significant achievement considering George Lucas is perceived to have killed his franchise with three movies. It should be noted that Alien Covenant has a better fit within the Alien franchise then Prometheus ever hoped to be, considering the xenomorphs where seemingly shoehorned into the final act of Prometheus at what seemed to be the last minute, whereas with Covenant there was a greater range of xenomorphs featured in the movie. I would also like to note I am glad that I procrastinated on watching this one and did not watch it at the friendly neighborhood cinema and watched it on DVD instead, as Covenant is the type of movie that would have ruined the cinematic experience. Covenant might indeed be a watchable movie there is still the chance of being greeted by the question ‘why did I watch this?’ by the time the credits start to roll.
As you would expect from Ridley Scott Covenant was a beautifully shot movie but it had little to character development to speak of and it seemed that it was unable to build any on screen tension. I suppose the only thing that could be considered to be positive about the entire movie was what could be considered as a nod to the power loader fight from Aliens in the final act of the movie.
