Canberra’s rapidly growing screen industry will benefit from the recent signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Screen Canberra and Screen Wellington.
“The MOU will help develop on-screen and post-production talent, enhance working relationships between the creative sectors in the world’s two coolest little capitals and promote Canberra as an ideal location for film and TV projects.” ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr commented.
The Chief Minister explained that award-winning crews, facilities and talent from Wellington – which has produced The Hobbit, Avatar and The Lord of The Rings trilogy, among many other blockbusters – will help Canberra’s creative sector flourish. Increasing opportunities for on screen and off-screen talent is at the heart of the MOU, with talent development and exchange an integral part of the agreement and that innovation in the screen sector in Canberra and Wellington will seek to put our combined industries at the heart of the international market, while both entities will develop content through co-production opportunities.
“Canberra’s natural setting offers a vast array of locations for directors and this MOU will help strengthen mutual international strategic relationships and further enhance the Canberra brand overseas. Through Screen Canberra, recent hit TV series The Code, Rake and Secret City have been filmed in Canberra, while feature films Joe Cinque’s Consolation, Rip Tide and Galore have all benefitted from ACT Government funding.” The Chief Minister commented.
