Two misguided youths join the reserves to make some money for their entrepreneurial dreams. No sooner than they finish basic training are they called up to do their part to save the free world.
Time to grab something from the way back bag, well, well look what I have found, In the Army Now. There probably are more then a few people out there who haven’t seen a Pauly Shore movie and that’s okay, I’m not entirely sure why I decided to watch this today I suppose it’s because I was at the right age at the time for Shore’s wit to strike a chord with my when I first came across his movies. And I have only just realised that I have reviewed this movie before.
Though to the best of my recollection I have not watched all of his movies from the 90’s. In the Army Now and his other movies from the 90’s aren’t necessary watching for a well rounded cinematic education (though watching In the Army Now might hold you in good standing for 90’s movie trivia night) because he plays a variation of the same character (which could have had something to do with him fading from the limelight).
That being said In the Army Now’s heart is most definitely in the right place , this is all about that one moment when you grow up and your life changes for the better. It also did not hurt that Shore did not have to carry the movie by himself there where good performances by Lori Petty, Andy Dick (I love the scene with the first cup of purified water, it is so childlike), David Alan Grier and Art Lafleur.
