South Australia will host the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Golf Open for another three years, under a new State Government deal expected to generate $18 million for the local economy. South Australian Tourism Minister Leon Bignell explained that the tournament was secured through the Major Events Bid Fund, the event will see top ranked international golfers welcomed back to Adelaide every year until 2021 to compete for the $1.6 million prize.
“We’ve been hosting the Women’s Australian Golf Open here in South Australia since 2016 and given how successful it’s been, we’re thrilled to secure the event for another three years.” Minister Bignell commented “More than 32,000 people came out to see South Korea’s Ha Na Jang take out top honours at the Royal Adelaide Golf Club last year, which is 10,000 more than when the event was held in Melbourne.”
Minister Bignell said that the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Golf Open attracts the very best international players, with superstars Karrie Webb, Cristie Kerr, Lydia Ko and Brooke Henderson part of the field this year, alongside reigning champ Ha Na Jang. The Minister went on to add that South Australia has hosted the tournament since 2016, with crowds of more than 30,000 people attending the events each year.
The 2018 ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Golf Open will be held at Kooyonga Golf Club from 15 to 18 February.
