In a world where families are limited to one child due to overpopulation, a set of identical septuplets must avoid being put to a long sleep by the government and dangerous infighting while investigating the disappearance of one of their own.
I’d just like to point out that while writing this review I could not find this movie on Netflix, even though this was released by Netflix. I guess I’ll come across on Netflix when I least expect it.
Sometimes it feels that the dystopian science fiction future genre is a little on the nose. However, when you have an interesting like dealing with global overpopulation something like that can be overlooked (because let’s face it, the dystopian future aspect of science fiction has been flogged been to death by those movies adapted from certain popular teen novel series).
I’m not familiar with any of the writers involved with What Happened to Monday? and am only vaguely familiar with director Tommy Wirkola’s work and they have delivered something that was very interesting to watch. Part of me would have liked to have seen this movie given a bigger so detail could have been thrown up on to the screen (I’m sure that everyone has that part in their brain), but I realise that probably would have taken away from the ‘this could happen’ feel that the movie has and this is achieved but not going fully science fiction. Noomi Rapace should be congratulated for playing all the Settman sisters. Glen Close is brilliant as Nicolette Cayman, especially if you go by her speech at the end of the movie.
