Metal Gear Solid singer and voice actress Donna Burke hopes her video game fans might get bitten by the jazz bug after listening to her new album Game + Anime = by Ganime Jazz which launches worldwide on April 3, 2018 for Bandcamp, digital download and CD. The album features 12 jazz-infused tracks, with 9 arrangements from video games, 1 from anime and 2 original tracks inspired by the Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3.
“I hope my fans’ interest in video games and anime leads to a newfound appreciation of jazz,” Donna explains. “Although I’m well-known for my video game ballads, I want to take this opportunity to share my passion for jazz with fans all around the world.”
Australian Donna Burke, based in Tokyo since 1996, has sang and acted in two METAL GEAR Solid games, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, GOD EATER and Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3, where she hauntingly portrayed Angela and Claudia. In the realm of anime, she has sung in Turn a Gundam and Tokyo Ghoul 2 and acted in Magical Lyrical Nanoha. Donna is also “Big in Japan”! for her English announcements on Japan’s Shinkansen bullet trains between Tokyo and Osaka. Ganime Jazz comprises of Donna and Tokyo-based composer/arranger/pianist Shunsuke Itoh, drummer Kohji Ebisawa, bassist Motoyoshi Ozawa and electric guitarist Hideki Tsuchiya. The band members, all fans of game and anime music, bring passion and originality to Donna’s original recordings, that allows fans to enjoy acoustic jazz style arrangements. The CD design, inspired by Donna’s favorite anime and games, exudes a cute and cheery anime-like atmosphere, inviting fans to sit back and enjoy the ride.
In October 2018, Donna will star in METAL GEAR In Concert, starting in Los Angeles (Oct. 10) before moving to New York (Oct. 13) and Paris (Oct. 28). The concerts will feature a symphony orchestra and video from iconic scenes from the METAL GEAR Solid games, with Donna singing “Sins of the Father”, “Snake Eater,” and “When Heavens Divide”.
