Batman, along with a number of his allies and adversaries, finds himself transplanted from modern Gotham City to feudal Japan.
DC would have a far more impressive extended universe on its hands and it would not be behind the eight ball if it had of concentrated on its animated projects rather then its cinematic universe, especially if they deliver more movies the calibre of Batman Ninja. Though it seems that strictly speaking Batman Ninja is not considered to be in DC’s animated universe (as far as I can tell). It should be noted that essentially there are two different versions of Batman Ninja in a GameSpot article from April Leo Chu and Eric Garcia have admitted to rewriting the film from the original Japanese script written by Kazuki Nakashima.
Roger Craig Smith and Tony Hale where cast as Batman and The Joker in the English version of Batman. Smith and Hale are two actors I would usually associate with these roles, though Smith has previously been cast to voice the role of Batman. I enjoyed Tara Strong’s work as Harley Quinn.
I really feel that the writers flexed their muscles with the speculative nature of the story which was furthered by the use of a Japanese style of animation, something I personally thought might not have been normally used in a DC animated movie. Also, the exploring of who Batman is when you take away all his toys is something that people who don’t read comic books (like me) should see more of. Though what I really liked about this movie was the climatic battle with the castle robots at the battle at Jigokukohara, the field of hell. I hate to admit it, but the castle robots immediately reminded me of the Zords from The Power Rangers.
