Batman and Nightwing are forced to team with the Joker’s sometimes-girlfriend Harley Quinn to stop a global threat brought about by Poison Ivy and Jason Woodrue, the Floronic Man.
This has been sitting in my pile of movies to watch for a few months (I think). In my previous Batman review I spoke of how I enjoyed the anime style that was used, well with Batman and Harley Quinn the animation style struck a nostalgic chord with me as it reminded me of Batman: The Animated Series. This nostalgic feeling was only furthered due to the fact that Kevin Conroy voiced Batman in the animated series and in Batman and Harley Quinn.
I thought that Melissa Rauch (who of course is better known for her role as Bernadette Rostenkowski from the Big Bang Theory) was a surprise choice to be cast as Harley Quinn. Her interpretation of Harley differs greatly from the interpretation of the role by better known versions of Harley like Tara Strong. Rauch’s interpretation of Harley seemed to paint the character as a more well-rounded figure capable of being hard and soft where as I’ve thought that Strong’s interpretation had painted Harley as more of a whimsical figure.
I thoroughly enjoyed the scene at the Music bar where all the henchmen hang out, it brought a dimension to the henchmen of the Batman universe that I am sure a lot of people had not thought of. I loved Min and Max’s duet performance of Don’t Pull Your Love as sung by Rob Paulsen, I also thought that it was very cool seeing Harley getting in touch with her inner rock goddess singing Hanging on the Telephone. And the crowning glory to scene was the wink to the television series from the 60’s. Though of course I feel that these songs can’t be topped by the Birds of Prey song from the animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
