Now in its third year, Village Cinemas’ Unscene short film competition is back and is once again seeking to discover Melbourne’s most talented aspiring filmmakers. Partnering with Swinburne University of Technology and AAMI, Village Cinemas is calling out for entries from today for all emerging filmmakers to produce a short film inspired by this year’s theme; ‘Choices’.
Reflecting on the first two Unscene competitions, Marketing Manager of Village Cinemas, Nic Robin said the caliber of the entries is always overwhelming. “The first two years exceeded our expectations with the level of enthusiasm and quality of short films that were submitted, and we have no doubt that this year will again top that,” Mr. Robin said.
Village Cinemas are seeking short films up to five minutes in length that are original, creative and compelling. Any aspiring filmmaker, amateur or student can apply as long as they are over the age of 18.
Mr. Robin said that films will be shortlisted through online voting at unscenefilms.com.au before they are showcased in a professional gala setting which will see the winner receive a cash prize of $10,000 and Blackmagic filming equipment. Prizes for second and third place will also include $2,000 and $1,000 respectively, alongside additional Blackmagic technology and the opportunity for the short film to play in select Village Cinemas foyers.
Mr. Robin explained that over the past two years we’ve seen over 150 entries and 50,000 votes cast.
Entries open on Monday 2 July, and will close of Wednesday 17 October, 2018, in preparation for the awards and gala event at Village Cinemas Rivoli on December 6, 2018.
