The Andrews Labor Government is supporting Melbourne’s first and only indigenous radio station, giving Aboriginal people a voice. Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Natalie Hutchins recently announced a grant of $50,000 for the 3KnD – Kool and Deadly, radio station. “Aboriginal organisations are doing a great job delivering community services and the Aboriginal Community Infrastructure Program (ACIP) will support these organisations to grow and flourish.” Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Natalie Hutchins commented.
The Minister explained that 3KnD provides a voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, arts, culture and politics in Melbourne. It broadcasts 24 hours a day providing the local Aboriginal community with an opportunity to reach out and celebrate their culture. The Minister also added that the funding will be used to determine the viability of refurbishing and relocation of 3KnD from temporary facilities to a permanent location in Preston.
Minister Hutchins said that the grant is from the Labor Government’s Aboriginal Community Infrastructure program, which has invested $14.6 million to improve service delivery, as well as the cultural connectedness and well-being of communities. A second round of the program will be open shortly.
