Set in 2010, a platoon of soldiers returns from Afghanistan after a controversial mission, one marred by bitter mistakes and cover-ups. Fighting Season is the story of these men, the unfolding mystery of what really happened, and the impact keeping this secret has on them and their families.
Fighting Season, a six-part event drama that will premiere Sunday, October 28 at 8.30pm on Fox Showcase or streamed On Demand.
What I first noticed about Fighting Season is that unlike other television series dealing the armed services Fighting Season didn’t seem to romanticize military service as much other series and movies have a tendency of doing. This was done by focusing on the impact of PTSD on them and their families as well as the struggle to keep secret the events surrounding the death of Captain Ted Nordenfelt.
I was unfamiliar with a lot people involved with the production of Fighting Season though there was a couple of familiar faces in of Jay Laga’aia, Glen Robinson (who was not in episode 1 or 2) and Lex Marinos. Marinos has a particularly moving scene with Julian Maroun who plays Corporal Peter “Pepsi” Aboud. By the end of the second episode it was clear that things are going to get a lot worse and I think I might have to revisit Fighting Season if I don’t get around to watching the rest of the series on TV.
There where a lot of great performances such as Julian Maroun, Marco Alosio, Milly Alcok and Kaan Gulder. I am also very interested to see the direction takes Private Jarrod Vogel, Captain Kim Nordenfelt & Sargent Sean Collins portrayed by George Pullar, Kate Mulvany & Jay Ryan.
