Set in riot-torn, near-future Los Angeles, ‘Hotel Artemis’ follows the Nurse, who runs a secret, members-only emergency room for criminals.
Hotel Artemis is a really cool concept for a movie, which seemed to be inspired by the John Wick franchise, though it never specifically that Hotel Artemis is apart of the John Wick cinematic universe. Sitting here writing this review I’m also reminded (at least partly) of the 2004 movie My Name is Modesty.
I really enjoyed Dave Bautista’s performance. He hit the mark with Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and I think that he done it again with his portrayal of Everest. It has been a few years since I last watched a movie that Jodie Foster was cast in, with Hotel Artemis if I did not know any better, I might not have realised that the woman playing the Nurse was Jodie Foster. Personally, I was a little bummed that the movie was only 94 minutes long, I wanted to see more. Specifically, there was a fight scene in a hallway featuring Sofia Boutella that looks like the only reason it was so short was that it was cut for timing reasons. I do hope that a longer version of that scene exists because while watching that scene the little ‘oh my god this is so cool’ voice in my head was screaming and making comparisons to the Daredevil hallway fight scenes.
There is also possibly one of the most creative uses of printer that I have ever seen in a movie.
