A war-hardened Crusader and his Moorish commander mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown.
Okay, this is exactly what I remember the tale of Robin Hood being. Now, if you go into this one expecting it to be something like Kevin Reynolds’ 1991 Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Ridley Scott’s 2010 Robin Hood or perhaps even the first two seasons of Foz Allan & Dominic Minghella’s Robin Hood Television series you might be disappointed with what you got by the time the credits rolled. In a world where reboots and reimaginations are a thing we got a movie that clearly has franchise aspirations and seemed to be styled in a similar fashion to Guy Ritchie’s 2017 King Arthur: The Legend of the Sword.
I loved everybody who was cast in this. Both Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx gave good performances while Ben Mendelsohn really seems to have established himself as the go to bad guy for these genre movies. I was surprised to see Tim Minchin cast as Friar Tuck and along with Eve Hewson as Marian had interpretations of their characters that where not the norm.
I suppose my only problem was the filmmaker involved with the production, they did not have enough experience and with the finale of the movie I had the feeling that they did not go as what was needed, especially considering the overall ‘comic book origin story’ the movie had.
