When the puppet cast of a ’90s children’s TV show begin to get murdered one by one, a disgraced LAPD detective-turned-private eye puppet takes on the case.
Past movies that I have watched that have starred Melissa McCarthy have not been my favourite. So, it was good to finally watch one of her movies that I enjoyed. Now granted the reason why I wanted to watch Happytime Murders was more due to the puppets then because casting of McCarthy. However, the brand of comedy that I would readily associate with McCarthy was the perfect fit for the comedic direction that the movie went, which I suppose could be considered as being around the same level as the Austin Powers movies but edgier. I also liked Elizabeth Banks’ performance and Goofer certainly was one of the more memorable puppets.
Apart from the use of puppets this was a by the numbers crime movie even with a twist ending, which I admit did not pick and the twist certainly was a lot better than the direction I thought that the movie was going to go.
