After escaping an attack by what he claims was a 70-foot shark, Jonas Taylor must confront his fears to save those trapped in a sunken submersible.
The Meg was adapted from 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror written by Steve Alten and has five sequels.
A movie with big sharks is never a good sign. In my experience a movie with big frigging sharks formally known as Megalodons is also not a good sign, if the festival of mysterious insanity was anything to go by. However, considering the budget for The Meg was way past ‘you get what you pay for’ levels I suppose we can make an exception. This is the kind of movie that I probably should have watched when it was at one of the many friendly neighbourhood cinemas and even though I will probably be ignored by The Asylum but The Meg is an example of a big frigging shark movie done right. Now sure the plot does have a certain rinse, lather repeat quality to it but unlike the shark movies that you guys have farted out, The Meg actually has more than passable effects, decent writing and actually takes the time to crack a few jokes rather than being a joke.
It was good to see that Ruby Rose and Cliff Curtis where cast in this movie but I loved Shuya Sophia Cai’s performance as Meiying. Probably because the character had some of the best lines of the entire movie.
