Chased by a vengeful criminal, the feds and a gang of otherworldly soldiers, a recently released ex-con, and his adopted teenage brother are forced to go on the run with a weapon of mysterious origin as their only protection.
For those of you who might be interested Kin was based on Jonathan Baker &Josh Baker 2014 short film Bag Man. I have vague memories of seeing a trailer of this at the friendly neighbourhood cinema once or twice and was a little surprised to find this recently on iTunes because I was expecting Kin to have a run in Australian Cinemas. Kin skipped an Australian cinematic run because of its poor performance at the US box office.
Apparently Kin is the first feature length movie directed by the Baker brothers and for the most part I was unfamiliar with the majority of actors cast in this movie. This isn’t a big loud action movie, but I think that Kin needs to be put on the list of movies that need to be seen on a as large a screen as possible. This was a nice brother bonding movie and both Myles Truitt and Jack Reynor gave okay performances, but it seemed that James Franco stole the movie. Kin’s big twist ending was interesting and would have been a good jumping off point for future movies. Though of course judging by its box office there is a huge chance that there will not be any future movies. What the twist ending managed to do was paint the movie with the ‘adapted from a young-adult novel series’ and that is a risky thing to do.
