Rated 5.5/6

Lt. Hornblower and his mates are sent to accompany a doomed royalist invasion of revolutionary France.

The Frogs and the Lobsters is the last of the movies that had its name changed for the US market where it is known as The Wrong War.

We have finally made it to the half way point of the series. This one is a little different to the rest of the series considering that Hornblower has a love interest. Mariette a schoolteacher with fluent English portrayed by Estelle Skornik, though it should be noted that Mariette doesn’t appear in the book. On the point of Hornblower’s love interest this another point of difference between the Sharpe series and Hornblower. Richard Sharpe seemingly only had to look at a woman to cause her to fall in love with him whereas Hornblower actually had to woo Mariette. Skornik gave a great performance and was seeming the emotional catalyst for Hornblower conversation with Captain Pellew at the end of the movie, this was the first movie where Hornblower seemed to have been unsure of his duty. I also enjoyed Antony Sher’s performance as the egotistically and very vindictive Colonel Moncoutant.
