The Scorpion King teams up with a female warrior named Tala, who is the sister of The Nubian King. Together they search for a legendary relic known as The Book of Souls, which will allow them to put an end to an evil warlord.
This one can either be filed in ‘why did I watch it’ or ‘they’ve made how many?’. For those of you who might be interested this is the fifth instalment in the Scorpion King franchise and technically it’s the eighth instalment in the Universal Studios’ The Mummy franchise. And yes I am still wondering why I took the time to watch this one.
I never thought that I would actually say this but the action sequences in The Scorpion King: The Book Souls made the action sequences in Xena: The Warrior Princess seem subdued by comparison and there is at least one example of female armour that would probably make Xena and Gabrielle blush.
There are people out there in the big wide world who criticise George Lucas’ abilities as a writer and hearing some dialogue from the early screen tests for Star Wars it’s a fairly accurate assessment of his abilities as a writer. However, writers David Alton Hedges and Frank DeJohn seemed to make Lucas’ early Star Wars dialogue seem like Hemingway in comparison.
The only redeeming thing about this movie was Nathan Jones’ performance as Enkidu a golem who is scared of fire and how the other characters deal with his fear.
