Dance week (April 29th to May 5th) celebrations kicked off in the ACT recently and the Government is encouraging Canberrans to take advantage of the performances and classes on offer throughout the week. Minister for the Arts and Cultural Events Gordon Ramsay launched Dance Week, presented by Ausdance ACT, as part of International Dance Day celebrations.
“Dance Week is a spectacular celebration of all forms of dance by professional, community and social dancers of all ages,” Minister Ramsay commented.
The Minister said that this year is particularly significant with several anniversaries across the sector.
• Mirramu Creative Arts Centre is celebrating their 30-year anniversary
• Dance on the Edge by the Belconnen Arts Centre is celebrating their 10th year of production
• The Sydney Dance Company will also be sharing their 50th anniversary with the ACT through a performance at the Canberra Theatre.
“The ACT Government proudly supports Canberra’s arts organisations, including Ausdance ACT,” Minister Ramsay commented.
“To me dance is a universal language and has power to change us. Dance week 2019 is for me about celebration and connection – celebration of this incredible art form together as a community, in all its diversity.” Founder of the Australian Dance Party, Alison Plevey said.
“I love the healing that dance can provide. Dance Week is a celebration of all bodies moving in and out of all dance forms.” Gretel Burgess, dance artist and teacher said.
