A musical fantasy about the fantastical human story of Elton John’s breakthrough years.

For those of you who might be interested John Reid was portrayed by Aidan Gillen in the 2018 Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, and by Richard Madden in Rocketman.

I loved the opening shot of this movie and by the time they were singing the first song I said to myself that this was that was not what I was expecting, as I was not expecting some of the more fantastical elements of the movie such as the first of Taron as Elton John and the concert scene at The Troubadour (which looked great on screen). I liked that the whole movie was from the perspective of Elton telling the story of his life. Personally I don’t see myself as a huge of Elton John’s music and it should be noted that before watching this movie I knew very little about John’s life or career, though I found that movie’s plot has cast a couple of featured songs in a different light.
I enjoyed Taron Egerton’s performance as Elton and Jamie Bell’s performance as Bernie Taupin. I was a little surprised to see that Bryce Dallas Howard was as Elton’s mother Sheila and I think might have to try and check out more of Richard Madden’s work.
Personally I hold Rocketman in higher regard as a ‘music’ movie then Jersey Boys because the filmmakers told us about the good and bad in Elton’s life (even though it should be noted that they both received 6/6). This is definitely the kind of movie that highlights the importance of love and acceptance from others and of ourselves.
