A crew of retired crooks who pull off a major heist in London’s jewellery district. What starts off as their last criminal hurrah, quickly turns into a brutal nightmare due to greed. Based on infamous true events.
I suppose the only reason why I watched this movie is because is that I have memories of watching another movie about the Hatton Garden Robbery that was released in 2017, which I reviewed in September of 2017 (for the those of you who might be interested in finding this movie its marketed as either ‘The Hatton Garden Job’ or ‘One Last Heist’).
I’m not sure what went wrong with King of Thieves, it had a lot going for it. Just look at the cast, okay I was a little surprised to see Charlie Cox cast in this (I’m only familiar with his work in the Netflix series Daredevil and the 2007 movie release Stardust) but there was also Michael Caine, Ray Winstone, Michael Gambon cast in leading roles, that should have been enough. Even with these leading men I found myself unable to care for their characters. This was also a very flat movie that did not feel as if it had any ‘punch’ to it. Of the two movies that I have watched about the Hatton Garden Robbery, King of Thieves is clearly the lesser movie.
