With his true love captured by the villainous Sheriff of Nottingham, the legendary Robin Hood and his crew of outlaws execute a daring rescue to save her.
For those of you who might be wondering this particular interpretation of the Robin Hood legend was released about two weeks before the release of the version starring Taron Egerton & Jamie Foxx (according to their respective entries on IMDB). However, I don’t think that Rebellion received a cinematic release, I don’t recall seeing any of its trailers in the cinemas here in Australia.
On Google Play I’ve seen Robin Hood: Rebellion described as being ‘The Raid meets Die Hard with a medieval twist’, I understand that point of view however, it should be noted that Rebellion isn’t in the same league as The Raid and this interpretation of Robin Hood portrayed by Ben Freeman isn’t a medieval John McClane. I wasn’t familiar with the majority of the people involved with the production of this movie, the only person who I was familiar with was Brian Blessed who was cast as Friar Tuck (it should be noted that Blessed was cast as Lord Locksley in the 1991 Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) it was interesting to see that this interpretation of Tuck was different to any of the other interpretations that I have seen of the character. It was good to see that Marie Everett’s Maid Marian wasn’t a ‘delicate flower’ while
Though its clearly on a smaller scale budgetwise, I felt that Rebellion had a similar feel to the final act of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
