Rambo must confront his past and unearth his ruthless combat skills to exact revenge in a final mission.
I really wasn’t sure what I was expecting from Last Blood but going by the ending of Rambo 4 I would have been perfectly content if Last Blood wasn’t made. I would also like to say going into Last Blood expecting a masterpiece is stupid, the reason for a Rambo movie to have a deeper meaning went away with the end of the Cold War. Afterall, remember this is a Rambo movie!!
Apart from the characters of Maria and Gabrielle. I enjoyed Yvette Monreal’s performance as Gabrielle, it should be noted that this is Monreal’s first movie role. Rambo Last Blood is a lot like the other movies in the franchise and it followed the story structure that you would expect, which I suppose made the movie a little predictable. Now it was good to see the more sensitive family-oriented side of Rambo’s personality. If you are looking for something to set Last Blood apart from the rest of the movies in the franchise it would be the third act of the movie. The action for the third act was dialled up to 11 and I do remember thinking that John had a flair for the dramatic. I also felt that the way the climax of the movie was shot it seemed that it was a homage to the Battle of the mounds scene from the John Milius’ 1982 movie Conan the Barbarian.
