The Furies is coming to cinemas on November 7 2019
A woman is kidnapped and finds herself an unwilling participant in a deadly game where women are hunted by masked men.
Last year when I got the chance to talk to Ken and Kirsten Lampl about The Furies, I was given a small sneak peak, I loved what I saw. So, I was excited to get the opportunity to finally see the finished movie. This is the third movie that I have watched for The Movie Boards that was shot in the ACT area. If you know of any others, I’d like to know about them.
I’ve said it in the past and I’ll say it again I don’t watch a lot of horror movies. Though I suppose with Halloween coming up in a few weeks it seemed oddly appropriate to watch this, even if The Furies is going to be released the week after Halloween.
While watching The Furies it gave me the impression that it was a cross between The Hunger Games, Turkey Shoot and The Condemned.
The Furies had an interesting concept and in the opening act it didn’t really answer any of the questions that I had about it, it just expected you to hit the ground running and any questions that it did answer in the third act I found myself left me with more questions.
This didn’t seem to be the type of movie that relied on the tried and tested jump scare instead The Furies went for what could only be described as squirm inducing moments that had me say to the screen ‘holy fuck’ more than once (for those of you who might be wondering I watched The Furies by myself). That being said The Furies had a sense humour which I really did not expect.
I was unfamiliar with all the actors cast in The Furies, though it would not surprise me if I have come across some of their work on Television without realising it in the past. I enjoyed Arlie Dodds and Linda Ngo as Kayla and Rose. The soundtrack had a great presence to it without being overpowering and the stalker masks had whose who of horror villain vibe.
Judging by the ending as you would expect from a horror by the time the credits rolled there was some unanswered questions and I certainly hope that they get answered in a sequel.
