Santa’s daughter, Cassie gets a chance to attend college for one semester in the ‘real’ world before heading back to the North Pole to fulfill her duties under her father.
Okay, the first Christmas movie that I’m reviewing this year. There is a very real chance that there will be a few more Christmas movies reviewed over the coming weeks.
Santa’s Girl was definitely a random choice as it popped up on my Netflix screen. I was unfamiliar with pretty much everybody involved with production. I was a little surprised to see that Barry Bostwick was cast as Santa. Bostwick is probably better as Brad Majors in the 1975 cult hit The Rocky Horror Picture Show or The Mayor in Spin City. Along with Bostwick McKayla Witt were the only people to give decent performances. Everybody else seemed very inconsistent with their performances. It should be noted that all of Santa’s elves gave performances that might be considered to be a little over the top, but I suppose that is to be expected all if you take into consideration the foods shown to be eaten at the North Pole.
This is definitely a cheesy movie and perhaps even a little forgettable. I would have liked to have seen a little more effort put into some of the visual effects, though I did find it cute when Cassie used her magic powers it reminded me of Samantha Stephens’s nose twitch from Bewitched.
Now, even with Santa Girl’s cheesiness, that at times seemed as if it was cranked up to 11 it was good to see that the filmmakers went for the heartfelt moments which were expected, but most definitely needed from a movie like this.
