Merve Bushwacker, returning home after a long absence. His mission? To partake in a refreshing beverage, known locally as amber fluid. On his arrival, he is dismayed to discover the planet has become as dry as a dead dingo′s donger, thanks to the tyrannical rule of Darth Drongo. Drongo has hoarded all the amber fluid in his impenetrable fortress “Dunny’s Deep” for reasons unknown.
According to the filmmakers Star Wars Downunder is a 30-minute Star Wars fan film which finally answers the age-old question, that has confounded many a film buff before: What would happen if you crossed Star Wars with an Australian beer commercial. Answer? Star Wars Downunder: an epic tale of the good, the bad and the thirsty.
This would have to be one of the most beautifully hilarious that I have seen this year. This is also one of the most Australian movies since Crocodile Dundee (I would say the most Australian thing since The Rum Rebellion, but I know that’s pushing it a little). We all know that Star Wars is for everyone and currently the franchise is a little problematic, so it is good to see a Star Wars that brings so much joy. Several times throughout the movie I found myself laughing so hard that I cried.
I haven’t heard of the filmmakers involved with the production of Star Wars Downunder, this is something that I stumbled across while on YouTube. I really do hope that there are more short films made by these guys.
This is a beautifully shot movie and it was clear that the film makers loved star wars even if none of the starships featured in the movie seemed to be inspired by anything that I have seen on a Star Wars Television or Movie screen. On a personal note X4-VB is the best spherical droid that I have seen.
