Marcus and Mike have to confront new issues (career changes and midlife crises), as they join the newly created elite team AMMO of the Miami police department to take down the ruthless Armando Armas, the vicious leader of a Miami drug cartel.
With film franchises, especially with things like trilogies I like to see directorial continuity throughout the entire trilogy. However, with it being over 15 years since the release of Bad Boys 2 I suppose it was a good to see that Michael Bay stepped away from the director’s chair this time. I would also like to note that Bad Boys 2 is my least favourite movie in this trilogy.
Even with the butchering skills of the bad guy in the previous movie I would have to say that Bad Boys for Life has a decidedly darker compared to the other two movies. it was good to see that the filmmakers did go for the nostalgic feelings that the audience no doubt had for the series, but they used it sparingly and it didn’t seem to effect the overall tone of the movie, like it seems to happen with other movies that are marketed to play on these emotions. Like the classic movies that always seem to be remade, to the horror of some people.
I really haven’t Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in a movie together that isn’t Bad Boys, so it was good to see that they haven’t lost the magic that made them so fun to watch back in the first movie. I know its small thing but what I really liked about this movie it was good to see that Reggie (the target of the most hilarious scene of Bad Boys 2) was one of the few returning characters.
Oh yes, it should be noted that the ground has been laid for a potential sequel.
