This week more the 49,000 public school students and 3,800 public educators are returning to 88 ACT public schools. Lyneham High School has opened the doors to its new transportable learning space to support the growing student population.
“The ACT Government is committed to ensuring that every public school is a great school, that has the infrastructure to support high-quality education. High quality, air-conditioned transportable learning spaces is one way the government is making sure that schools have the facilities that they need.” ACT Education Minister Yvette Berry commented.
Minister Berry went on to point out that transportable learning spaces have also been delivered at Forrest Primary School and Telopea Park School. The Minister added that this is part of the government’s $8.5 million investment in additional accommodation for Canberra schools, which will see up to 350 additional places in public schools over the next two years.
The Minister explained that transportable learning spaces of today are spacious, comfortable learning environments. They are modern, fully insulated, and designed to meet current energy targets, with all the same comforts and technical infrastructure as a permanent building.
“Student numbers tend to rise and fall as suburbs go through their life cycle. Schools are built with the ability to be scaled up and later scaled down. Transportable learning spaces allow for flexibility as enrolments fluctuate. The average lifespan of transportable learning spaces is 15 years and they can be moved multiple times within that lifespan.” Minister Berry commented.
Minister Berry said that every child and family in the ACT has a place at a great local public schools. The ACT Government will continue this extensive program of upgrades and expansions to public schools to ensure that learning environments are accessible, sustainable and meet the needs of this growing city.
