Earth has been conquered by robots from a distant galaxy. Survivors are confined to their houses and must wear electronic implants, risking incineration by robot sentries if they venture outside.

Time for one that is kind of topical. Okay, for the record it turns out that I had actually watched this one before, but I did not realise it at the time when I hired, though it should be noted that technically this isn’t a revisit because I can’t find a review for it in my files.
The first thing that the obvious needs to be said about Robot Overlords is that unfortunately it is a forgettable movie. That being said it does have some good points.
Without giving away too much I loved the scene in the giftshop, given the serious tone of the movie and the confines the kids in this movie are forced to live in it was so satisfying to see these kids have a chance to cut loose and just be kids.
Ben Kingsley as you would expect was great, he had that hated teacher vibe down perfectly which made it so easy for the kids to play off of. I also thought that strict teacher moment that Gillian Anderson had was one of the more hilarious moments for the movie. I enjoyed the arc that James Tarpey’s character Nathan took and it was good to see that Milo Parker who was clearly the youngest actor cast had something to do with his character and wasn’t just a mascot for the older kids in the group.
My biggest complaint about the movie was the effects used for ending and the larger robots, to me they did not look as good as the could be and it seemed that they needed polish to make them look perfect. Though I suppose this can be dismissed as a petty complaint they still look good given the probable constraints of the budgets.

It should also be noted that apparently novel based on the film written by scriptwriter and co-creator of the movie Mark Stay has published, a iOS and Android created by Iglu Media called Robot Warlords that is based on Robot Overlords and there is plans for a TV series.
